Micromax teams up with BSNL to launch JioPhone competitor

Micromax has successfully released its new 4G VoLTE feature mobile phone. Its name is Bharat 1. It has been released in the first week of this October. It costs about Rs. 2,000. It is ready to join the race to get a part of the segment of basic mobile phones that are created by the Reliance JioPhone Company.

The Gurugram-based handset mobile phone maker is ready to launch its 4G feature phone. It will be in an exclusive tie-up with state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) in order to give attractive offers. These offers will also include free voice. This news has been leaked by the two people who are well aware of the company’s plans and they gave this exclusive news on the condition of anonymity.

The launch of the mobile set is timed to take a benefit of the festive season as during the season demand increases. This decision has been taken by the company despite the fact that it is in competition with large Chinese rivals. As it is a well-known fact that Chinese companies have spread their businesses across the globe and have especially taken the lion’s share in the mobile phone market.

This partnership can give tough competition to the JioPhone. JioPhone runs on the Reliance Jio Infocomm network and hence it might, in turn, give benefits to BSNL. As everyone knows that BSNL has subscribers in the rural and remote areas of the country where there is more demand for feature phones as compared to smartphones. Demand for a smartphone is quite low in rural areas than urban areas.

According to a Micromax executive who is directly involved in the planning, “The idea is to have a device that can give competition to Reliance’s Jio Phone… there is a huge market of 500 million feature phone users who would want to have more than one option”.

He also said that Bharat One mobile set give bigger screen in size. It has more battery life and a sharper phone camera than all feature phones currently offering.

Micromax is India’s second-largest handset manufacturer till today. It has jumped to the 4th position in the overall rankings and has been dropped out of the list of top five smartphone makers.

The company is trying to sell its feature phones on low price that also runs 4G and gives offers for free calls over the network of BSNL.
